Many people are aware of the weight loss benefits of green tea but a new study has found that it also helps to fight off covid. The study was published in the Scientific Reports journal. Scientists from the Kyoto Prefecture University of Medicine in Japan had also been studying it previously and discovered a connection.
Green tea is full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Matcha is uses the game leaves as green tea but instead of being brewed the leaves are ground down into a fine powder. This means that matcha has a much stronger concentration of the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
The study firstly found that the virus gains access to human cells via the same place as the ACE2 receptor connects to our human cells. The receptor was likened to a door and if the door never opens the virus cannot make the person sick. The study included a trial with seven healthy volunteers who consumed sweets containing different types of tea and matcha or a placebo. The scientists found that the omicron covid variants they tested were effectively made inactive by the tea and matcha when exposed for 10 seconds.
